DAVID KINKEAD
David Newell KINKEAD (son of Alexander and Sussanah Kits who died in Barlow, Washington County 11/11/1893) b. January 11, 1838, Pennsville, Ohio; d. December 30, 1919.David Newell Kinkead, aged 24, Volunteered Feb, 1864 and served in the 77th Regiment, Company D as a private. Served 9 months. Died Nov. 1864. Taken prisoner at Mark Mills, but escaped. Reported killed on a foraging Expedition in Arkansas.Washington County History (1920)
David's story, as told to his children and passed on, was that he escaped after being taken prosoner in Arkansas. Unable to find his outfit, he found his way to his home in Pennsville, Ohio. He later operated a jewelry store in Marietta, Washington County., Ohio and then moved it to Belpre, Washington County.,Ohio.
