Arthur Eisnagle Crushed Under a Fall of Slate
Arthur Eisnagle, 55, Killed in a Mine at Modoc, Sept. 6, 1923 reported in the Athens Messenger
Glouster, OHio Sept. 6-- Arthur Eisnagle, 55, of Green's Run, was instantly killed by a fall of top in Mine 281 in Modoc about 10 o'clock Wednesday morning. It is estimated that the mass that fell weighed fully 20 tons. Mr. Eisnagle was crushed thru the chest, leg and arm broken and head crushed. Mr. Eisnagle and his son, Morrison 19 were working together. They put off a shot and left the room until the smoke had cleared away, taking their dinner buckets with them. The young man decided to eat lunch while waiting for the smoke to clear away. Mr. Eisnagle however, stated he would go back to the room and clean up the bottom. Just as he entered the room the mass of top came tumbling down. The son at once ran for help and it took two hours hard work on the part of several men to clear the way of the fall and recover the body of Mr. Eisnagle. The body was brought to the room of the undertaking rooms of L. R. Andrews of this city, and kept until Thursday when it was taken to the the family home at Green's Run. Mr. Eisnagle is survived by his widow and eight children, four sons and four daughters. One son Harley resides in Cleveland and the other children all reside at home. They are John, Morrison, Arthur, Carrie, Lillie, Harnetta, and Vina. The Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, at the Green's Run church conducted by the Rev. Courtney of Chauncey and burial will be made in Maplewood cemetery.
