HARVEY ADAMSHarvey Holland Adams, son of Seth and Mary Mills Adams, was born October 31, 1844 in Liberty township Monroe County, Ohio, and departed this life October 2nd 1926 at the age of eighty-one years eleven months and two days. He was married to Miss MARGARET J. MULINEX, February 25, 1869. To this union were born seven children, five of whom survive, they are: Mrs. Josephine Addleman of the home, Mrs. James Burt of Macksburg, R.D.1., Mrs. Lenora Adkinson, of Canton, W. E., of E. Sparta, and Chas, F. of Jenks, Okla. Three brothers and one sister, John and Seth of Gooses Creek, W. Va., Chas. W., of Eureka, W. Va., and Mrs. Wm. Sinnett of Elizabeth, W. Va. There are twenty seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, with a host of friends to mourn his departure. In early life he became a member of the M. E. Church at Volcano, W. Va, and has lived a Christian life ever since. In his more active days he maintained his membership in I. O. O. F. He enlisted in the Civil War in 1861 at Camp Union at Parkersburg, W. Va., in Co. G. 36th Ohio Regiment and was mustered out of service on July 29, 1865 at Wheeling, W. Va. Thus serving in the army for four long years. He was a good soldier, brave, loyal, modest and true. He was a good man a kind neighbor and genial friend, and held in high honor and esteem by all who knew him. There is much comfort in the kindly gracious words spoken in appreciation of his sterling manhood. An appropriate and impressive memorial service was held at Shafers M. E. Church [in Noble Co., OH] on Monday afternoon, in charge of the pastor Rev. H. H. Fisher. A male quartet composed of Messrs. Smith, James, Cox and Fisher sang several selections. Military honors were given. Five comrades of the G. A. R. were honorary pallbearers. A squad of American Legion veterans were pallbearers and guard of honor. At the close of the service a soldier's salute was fired and taps sounded. [NB: Harvey H. Adams served in all the battles with his company G, received his pension and was noted in a 1900 publication about the survivors of company G.]

MARGARET ADAMS
Margaret J. Mulinex was born November 13, 1846, and departed this life June 5, 1915, thus making her aged sixty-eight years, eight months and twenty-two days. She was married to Harvey H. Adams February 25, 1869. To this union were born seven children. The husband and five of the children survive. They are: Mrs. Josephine Addleman of the home, Mrs. James Burt, Mrs. Lenora Adkison, and William all of Noble county, and Charles of Jenks, Okla. She also leaves two brothers, twenty-three grand-children and six great-grand-children to mourn her departure. The deceased was for a number of years a member of the M. E. church of Shafers and a member of the Home Department of the Macksburg Sabbath school. For the past two years she has been in failing health yet through all her suffering she was ever patient and loving, always hoping soon to be among her friends, whose companionship she enjoyed so much during the years which she was able to mingle with them. The funeral services were held Tuesday at 1 o'clock p.m. from the Shafer's church, Rev. C. W. Cooper officiating. Interment in Shafer cemetery [over the line in Noble Co., OH]. Those attending from a distance were the brothers of the deceased William Mulinex, of Hebron, Ind.; Charles Mulinex of East Sparta, O.; Seth Adams, of Beverly, O.; Charles Adams, of Goose Creek, W. Va.; Alonzo Mulinex, Goose Creek, W. Va.; Delbert Mulinex, East Sparta, O.; [and sisters/daughters of the deceased] Mrs. Charles Adams, Goose Creek, W. Va.; Mrs. Charles Mulinex, East Sparta, O.; Mrs. Lloyd Snyder, Jacksonburg, W. Va.; Winnifred Adkison, Marietta, O.; George McKee, and wife, Mrs. Joseph McKee, and Clayton McKee and two children, Doris and Joseph, and Mrs. Melissa Retzer, all of Caldwell, O. Mrs. Adams had been a resident of this locality for the past twenty-four years and had made many true friends who in this sad hour, extend their sincere sympathy to the bereaved family, and pray that their burdens may be lightened by Him "Who doeth all things well."

ROY ADDLEMAN
Roy Holland Addleman was born in Beaver Co., Pa., Feb. 10, 1895, died Jan. 2, 1914, age 18 yrs. 10 mo. 22 days. He was baptised when 5 years old in Scio M.E. church. He was son of Andrew P. and Josephine Addleman and grandson of Harvey Holland Adams. His father died about 3 years ago of Pneumonia in Wichita Co., Kan. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. W. Peters in Macksburg M.E. church. Interment in Lund cemetery. Pallbearers were chosen from Miss Mary G. Smithson's Sunday school class which Roy would have been a member of had he not been so sorely afflicted. The floral tribute from Sunday school was beautiful and consisted of roses, carnations and narcises. Roy was previous to his illness a great lover of books and a student far beyond his years as was proven by the many prizes, certificates, etc., awarded him. He was thoroughly good and always anxious to be in church and Sabbath school."His mother and one brother, Paul, are left lonely without him yet they are glad his sufferings are ended and are looking forward to the happy meeting in those mansions above where there is no sorrow nor saddness and where sickness and suffering can not enter. At Christmas time Roy was the recipient of many useful and beautiful presents and for this and the kindness and sympathy of friends and neighbors the mother and son are truly thankful and wish to express their appreciation to all. "Truly, the Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart." [NB: Roy Addleman lived in Macksburg, Washington Co., OH only a few short years. It was between 1911 - 1914. His widowed mother, Josie (Adams) Addleman and his younger brother, Paul, all returned after his father died in western KS.]

OPHELIA ALEXANDER
Mrs. Ophelia Berry Alexander, wife of Mr. James Alexander, passed away Sunday morning at 5 o'clock at her home at Moss Run, after an extended illness with anemia. Mrs. Alexander was born in New England, Athens county, on March 27, 1860, and was therefore past 57 years of age. She had resided at Moss Run for 15 years and made many friends who will regret to hear of her death. She was a member of the Moss Run Congregational church. For a number of years she was superintendent of the Sunday school of that church. Besides her husband the deceased is survived by three children, Misses Hope and Glenn, who reside at home, and Ford alexander, of Taft, Cal. One sister, Mrs. Viola M. Racer, of this city, and two brothers, Warren Berry, of this city, and Ed Berry, of Whittier, Cal. also survive. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Moss Run Congregational church. Rev. L. L. Cherrington will officiate and burial will be made in the Moss Run cemetery.

LAURA ANDERSON
Word has been received of the death of Mrs. Laura L. Anderson, 86, of Pittsburgh, Pa. She died in the St. Clair Hospital there at 5 p.m. Tuesday. She was born in Belpre, a daughter of the late David and Mary Oliver. She was the youngest of nine children, was a Presbyterian, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Janet C. Smith, of Belpre; a daughter, Mrs. Rene A. Mohl, of Stockton, Calif.; and two grandsons, Rene Jr. and Victor, in New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Floyd Anderson; and by seven sisters. The funeral will be held in Pittsburgh. A brief service will be conducted at 1 Friday at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg prior to burial.

Lois Irene Ruf Baritell, 75, Kingwood, died Sept. 15, 2002, at Preston Memorial Hospital, Kingwood. She was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Belpre, a daughter of the late Henry L. and Letitia Irene McCualsky Ruf. She was a 1944 graduate of Parkersburg High School and a 1946 graduate of Potomac State College. She was a member of the Women's Golf Association at the Preston Country Club, attended the Kingwood Presbyterian Church and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Harold "Babe" Baritell of Kingwood; two sons, Harold Franklin Baritell Jr of Marietta, NY, and David Ruf Baritell of Tully, NY; one daughter, Susan K. Baritell of Petaluma, Calif.; one brother, Henry L. Ruf Jr. of Parkersburg; three sisters, Sarah Christopher of Eastland, Texas, Carol Jackson of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Donna Shaver of Parkersburg; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be 7 p.m. today at the James G. Lobb Funeral Home, Kingwood, the Rev. John M. Zuercher officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. ROSE BERRY
Mrs. Rose Berry, 61, widow of the late Warren Berry, died at the family home, Virginia and Gilman streets, at 7 o'clock on Tuesday evening, following an illness of two years' duration of neuritis and complications. She had been in a serious condition for several weeks. Her husband died a year ago on the 28th of April. Rose Martin was born in West Virginia and when a young woman came with her family to Marietta, where, 36 years ago, she was united in marriage with the late Warren Berry. They made Marietta their home during the remainder of their lives, and had resided at Virginia and Gilman streets for many years. Mrs. Berry was well known in the city and had many friends. In addition to five brothers, Mrs. Berry is survived by three sons, Burt Berry, of Wooster, Harry Berry, of South America, and Warren Berry, of Akron, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Hugh Pitzer, of Custer, Oklamhoma, and two stepsons, George Berry, of Whittier, California, and Everett Berry, of Fort Worth, Texas.

WARREN BERRY
Death Takes Well Known Mariettan -- Warren Berry, prominent oil operator of Marietta, died very suddenly at the office of Dr. R. B. Hart, Gilman street, at half-past eight o'clock Friday morning. Death was the result of a stroke, which Mr. Berry suffered shortly after he entered the doctor's office in quest of medical services. Something over a year ago, Mr. Berry suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he rallied after a few months. While he never had regained his normal health, he had until recently shown improvement. Friday morning, he left his home at Gilman and Virginia streets, and walked to the doctor's office. A few minutes after his arrival, he was stricken, falling to the floor. Within a few minutes, life was extinct. Warren Berry was born in Harmar sixty-four years ago, the coming June, a son of the late Alex and Rebecca Berry. He grew to manhood in the community in which he was born, and at an early age entered the oil fields. He was successful in many of his ventures and became one of the prominent figures of the oil-producing fraternity. He continued to live in West Marietta, where he maintained an attractive home overlooking the Ohio river. Mr. Berry was twice married, his last wife, whom he married about 36 years ago, having been Miss Rose Martin. She, with the following children, survive Mr. Berry: George Berry, in California, Mrs. Hugh Pitzer, in Kansas, Everett Berry, in Texas, Bert Berry, in Wooster, O., Harry Berry, in England, and Warren C. Berry, at home. Two brothers, George Berry, of Coffeyville, Kansas, and Ed Berry, of Los Angeles, Calif., and one sister, Mrs. Pitt Racer, of Marietta, also survive. Funeral arrangements are not completed. [NB: Warren is buried in Oak Grove with his wife Rose.]

PETER BESS
P.M. BESS DIED OF LOCKJAW IN TENNESSEE - Well Known resident of This County Dies from Injuries Received in an Accident. -- Suffering with lockjaw, which resulted from injury to his ankle in an accident a short time ago. Peter M. Bess, a well known resident of Washington county, died near Lexington, KY., and his remains have been brought to his home at Little Hocking for burial. His brother Samuel Bess, left to attend the funeral. For several months the deceased has been working on the locks and dams in the Tennessee river, and prior to going south was employed as construction superintendent on the Ohio River road. He is a man well known in this city, having been engaged on the dam at this place during the course of its construction many years ago. He was aged 50 years and is survived by a devoted widow and five children.

A number of people from this city attended the funeral of Capt. P.M. Bess at his summer home, known for several generations as ÒThe Bess Farm.Ó Near Little Hocking.\ Capt. Bess died at his home in guild, Tenn., Wednesday evening, October 5th at 6 oÕclock. His wife and family accompanied by their family physician, Dr. Ray of Chattanooga, left Tennessee, Thursday evening, arriving at Little Hocking, Saturday morning. Capt. Bess was a son of the late R. W. Bess, many years a resident of this county, but moved to Brilliant, Ohio, in 1889. Much of his life for the past ten years has been spent in the South. Yet the love and respect with which he is esteemed by the people of this county was shown by the vast crowd of people who attended his funeral Sunday afternoon --- Marietta Register-Leader. P.M. Bess was a brother of Miss Jennie Bess, of the Garfield School, of this city.

MRS. UDILLA BESS DIES AT ROCKLAND, OHIO -- Mrs. Udilla Bess, aged 74, died this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edgar Watson of Rockland, Ohio, following a brief illness. Mrs. Bess was born in Illinois but moved to this vicinity at an early age and resided for the reminder of her life at Little Hocking, Ohio. Surviving are two sons, Ray Bess of Edgeworth, PA., and Dean Bess of Philo, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Minnie Conley of Vincent, Ohio and Mrs. Edgar Watson of Rockland; four borthers, Thomas Dunfee in Oklahoma an David, John and Rubin Dunfee of Little Hocking; four sisters, Mrs. Ida Collins of Los Angeles, Mrs. Mary Baumgardner and Mrs. Lou Baumgardner, both of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. Rosa Chambers of Little Hocking, and eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Another daughter, Anna, died about eleven years ago.

Mr. John W. Bowersock, 79, passed away at his home on Archers Fork at 9:25 p. m. Monday following a short illness. Mr. Bowersock was born in Washington Co. on October 12, 1858 and had lived at Archer's Fork 52 years. He was the son of the late Henry and Sarah Wood Bowersock. He was married to Miss Lucrettia Smith on November 7, 1878. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include his widow seven children- Mrs. Wealtha Reed of New Cumblerland, WVa; Mrs. Leora Depuy of Dart, Miss Alice Bowersock of Marietta, Mrs.Sarah Reed of Moss Run, Mrs. Edna Binegar of Archer's Fork, Ray Bowersock of Rockland and Elmer Bowersock of West Branch, Mich; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. One daughter, Mrs Mary Nunley, preceded her father in death. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p. m. in the Newport Methodist Episcopal Church with W.W. McClure officiating. Interment will be in Newport.

SARAH BOWERSOCK
Woman, 101 Years Old, Passes Away -- Mrs. Sarah Wood Bowersock, in her 102nd year, Washington County's oldest resident passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. W. Thomas at Lower Newport on Sunday morning at 4 o'clock. Death was due to inflirmities. The venerable and highly esteemed resident of Newport Township was active and alert until the last and was up and around until only a few days ago. Until about a year ago it was her pleasure to assist in the household duties in the home of her daughter Mrs. Thomas. Mrs. Bowersock was formerly Miss Sarah Wood daughter of the late Mr.and Mrs. John Wood, pioneer residents of Guernsey Co. She was born in Guernsey Co. on February 24, 1830. She grew to womanhood in Noble Co. just across the Washington Co. border line and following her marriage to Henry Bowersock on March 17, 1853, she made her home in Ludlow Township and later in Independence and in Newport Townships. Her husband died in Newport Township on June 6, 1903, at the age of 83 years. Surviving are six sons and daughters: John W. Bowersock of Dart, Mrs. Mary Skinner, Mrs. E.L. Kesseiring and Mrs. E.W. Thomas all of Newport Township, Philip Bowersock of Schley and Mrs. O.B. Smith of Orwell, Ashtabula Co. There are 28 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bowersock came from a family in which longevity seems to be the rule, her grandmother having lived to be 104 years old. Mrs. Bowersock's keen mind was active until the last and she recalled with interest the developments in Washington Co. from the old days of the turn-pike and the mud roads which were everywhere until the new era of the good roads. Among Mrs. Bowersock's old friends with whom she enjoyed her last birthday in February are Joshua Smith, 93 of Reno and Aunt Eliza Plumer,89, the trio having been intimate friends and neighbors of years. Mrs. Bowersock was a member of the Christian Church since early girlhood. Funeral services will be held at the Newport Methodist Church on Tuesday at 2 p. m. Rev. W. W. McClure will officiate. Interment will be in Newport Cemetery.

MIRIAM BROWN
Mrs. Miriam L[owe]. Brown died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. A Moore on East Washington Avenue at daybreak Sunday morning after an illness which confined her to bed for more than two months, having reached almost eighty years of age. Mrs. Brown was born in the state of Ohio, December 31, 1831, and was the widow of Captain David T. Brown, who died suddenly while on a visit to the Moore home some ten years ago. Before coming to DuBois after the death of her husband to make her home with her daughter, she had resided in Beverly, Ohio, for nearly a century, and the body will be taken to that place, leaving on the 4:15 Pennsylvania train this afternoon, for interment, to be preceded by a service in the Methodist church of which she had been so long a faithful member. At the bedside when the end came were her two daughters, Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Theodore G. Davis, of Los Angeles, California, and her son, L[ewis]. K. Brown, of Zanesville, Ohio who was a frequent visitor during her illness. Mrs. Brown was the sole survivor of her father's family and she is survived by the son and two daughters mentioned. She was devoted to her family through a long and useful life and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. Until her final illness, she was remarkably active for one of such advanced age, and while she lived took a keen interest in everything about her, even to the minor affairs of her grandchildren, to whom she was greatly endeared. WILLARD BROWN
Willard M. Brown, son of Capt. David T. Brown, of Beverly, died at his home, Tuesday morning, May 2d, after a long illness of consumption. The young man's age was 33 years and he was of unusual promise. His health gave way while at work for the Columbus Buggy Company with which concern he was connected for a number of years as correspondence clerk and later on the road. The funeral will occur Thursday, at 1:30 p.m., and will be conducted by Mount Moriah Lodge of Masons of which lodge he was a valued member. [NB: Buried at Beverly Cemetery, Beverly OH.]

CYRENUS BUCHANAN
The death of Dr. Cyrenus Buchanan, on the 31st ult., was not unexpected to his friends. For several years he had suffered with cancer in the face. Several operations had been performed and all done that the skill of the profession could suggest, without avail. Dr. Buchanan had been a resident of the county for about 30 years, living at Lowell until his health failed, where he accumulated a considerable property, and established a good reputation. He was a kind man, unassuming and charitabley disposed towards all. During his suffering he was called on to part with his companion whose death occurred from the same disease.

Mrs. Fannie (Mankins, Johnson) Cain, 43, died Saturday evening, at 6 o'clock at the Marietta Hospital. Her home was near Caldwell. She is survived by her husband, a daughter, and two sons, one of whom is in France. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning from the home of a sister, Mrs. Walter Morey, on Harmar Street, and burial will be made at Gravel Bank in charge of Doudna's. [Fannie is the daughter of Ezra and Francis Parke Mankins. She is also the mother of Sarah and Herman Johnson, and Milford Cain].

ALONZO CARTER
Mr. Alonzo L. Carter died at his home at Cutler at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at the Cutler Presbyterian church, tomorrow morning at 10:30. The body will be brought to this city and interment will be made in Harmar Cemetery at 1 o'clock. The deceased was formerly a resident of this city and moved to Cutler only a few weeks ago. He leaves a wife and a family of children. Last Friday, Mr. Carter was struck on the head by a flying lever, while working at the plant of the Morris Hill Stone Company and the blow was the primary cause of his death. He had been afflicted with purulent bronchitis which made his constitution less hardy.

MAMIE CLARK
Sudden Death of Mrs. J. W. Clark. -- David Oliver, of Belpre, about 11 o'clock Saturday, received a message announcing the critical illness of his daughter, Mrs. J. W. Clark, of Columbus, and together with his daughter, Mrs. P. H. Glancy, of this city, left for that place on train No. 3, over the B. & O. S. W. which leaves here at 12:40, hoping to arrive in Columbus in time to see her alive, but when they arrived there they were shocked to learn that Mrs. Clark had died at 5 o'clock, some little time before their arrival. They returned home Sunday afternoon to make arrangements to attend the funeral at Bidwell, Ohio, which will be held at that place at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, which is the old home of Dr. Clark, husband of the deceased. The news of the death of Mrs. Clark when it was received in Belpre and this city was a distinct shock to her many friends, to whom she was familiarly known as Miss Mamie Oliver prior to her marriage eight years ago. The deceased is survived by her husband, who is chief physician of the Ohio penitentiary under appointment by Governor Harmon, and three children, one daughter and two sons. Prior to moving to Columbus six months ago, they resided at Oak Hill. She is also survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Oliver, of Belpre, and seven sisters, Mrs. McCaulsky (McCualsky), and Miss Laura Oliver, of Belpre; Mrs. P. H. Glancy, of this city; Mrs. John Davidson, of Philadelphia; Mrs. William McCrory, of Pittsburgh; Mrs. William Heasley, of Chillicothe, and Mrs. P. G. Smith, of Smithville. The deceased was thirty-seven years old, and her death was due to heart disease, with other complications, and she had been ill only a few days.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at the Spencer funeral home, Belpre, for Mrs. Margaret M. Clark, 91, of 1937 Washington Blvd., Belpre, who died Tuesday at her home. The Rev. Emmett Harrell will officiate. Burial will be in Rockland cemetery. Mrs. Clark was born in Belpre, Oct. 7, 1872, daughter of the late John Oliver and Josephine Province Oliver. She spent her entire life in Belpre. She was a member of the Congregational Church. Survivors include a son, W. P. Clark, Belpre; two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Her husband, Harry Clark, preceded her in death. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon today.

CHARLES CLOSE
Charles Close of Long Run Dies -- Charles Close, aged 83 years, died at his home at Long Run on Thursday at 9 p. m. forliing and illness due to infirmities. Mr. Close was born in Bavaria Germany on October 4, 1850. He came with his parents to America when quite young , and the family settled in the Long Run neighborhood. He spent the greater part of his life there. He had lived at Fleming for five years and had also lived in Marietta for about 10 years,when he conducted a grocery store on South Sixth Street. His wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Close died on April 9, 1929. Surviving are a son and two daughters. Daniel M. Close and Mrs. Mary Hall of Long Run, and Mrs. Adam Crumley of Marietta. One son, Charles Peter Close, died in 1907. The are also two grandchildren, Floyd Hall of Kilgore Tx and Mrs. Ora E. Weber of Marietta. There are also two great grandchildren. The deceased was the last member of his family of brother and sisters. Funeral services will be held at the Doudna & McClure funeral palors on Sunday at 1:30 p. m. Interment will be made in Oak Grove.

ELIZABETH CLOSE
Mrs. Elizabeth Close, and old and respected lady of Newport, township and widow of the late Peter Close, died at the home of her son, Mr. Charles Close, near Yankeeburg, Saturday evening. Her death was due to dropsy and that fell destroyer, the grip. She had been a sufferer for 5 years, and was 69 years old. Mrs. Close was born in Bavaria, Germany, and immigrated with her husband and family to this country in 1855, and since that time has been a resident of Washington CO.,with the exception of 2 years residence in Kansas. She leaves 3 sons and 1 daughter. The burial and funeral services took place Monday, Feb 8th, at Yankeeburg

MARTIN CLOSE
Martin Close, 81, Taken by Death -- Martin Close 81, fomer resident of Marietta, died on Thursday evening at 9 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs Frank Skinner of New Philadelphia. The deceased was born in Germany on January 8, 1853, and with parents came to the United States at the age of three years. He spent most of his life in the Yankeeburg neighborhood. He is survived by six daughters and one brother, Charles Close of Yankeeburg. One son and one daughter preceded him in death. The body was brought to the Doudna & McClure Funeral home. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at the Yankeeburg Church at 1 o'clock. Interment will be made in the Yankeeburg cemetery. The body will remain at the Doudna & McClure funeral home until Sunday noon.

Mrs. Mary Close Dies Here Sunday -- Mrs Mary F. Close, 92, widow of Martin Close, lifelong resident of Washington CO., died Sunday at the home of her daughter Mrs. Henry Hall, 218 Spring St., following decline. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p. m. at Doudna & McClure's. Burial will be in Valley cemetery. Mrs. Close was born Feb 14, 1856, in Newport Twp., a daughter of John and Frances Marshall Ritchey. Her husband, Martin Close, died in 1934. Survivors are her daughters, Mrs. Flora Becker and Mrs. Margaret Hall, Marietta; Mrs. Fannie Skinner of New Philadelphia; Mrs. Bessie Gleeson of New York City; Mrs. Alta Fleming of Tonawanda, N.Y. and Mrs. Jennie Rimbey of Buckeye Lake. Sisters are Mrs. Anna Haynes of Long Run and Mrs. Elizabeth Mendenhall of Eight Mile. There are 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

On Saturday, March 6, 1915, at 6 p.m., at the Suburban General hospital, Bellevue, Pa., Mrs. Lyda Oliver Davidson, sister of Mrs. W. P. McCrory, 624 Parkview ave., North Avalon, Pa. Funeral will be held from the family home, Belpre, Ohio. [NB: Lyda Oliver Davidson was born 17 Feb 1869, Belpre, OH, a daughter of David and Mary Cool Oliver. She was a schoolteacher and resided in Philadelphia PA. She was married to John Davidson.]

Mrs. Lydia Davidson, 40, widow of late John Davidson, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Oliver of Belpre died at her home in Pittsburgh last Saturday afternoon after a brief illness of pneumonia. Besides the parents she is survived by six sisters. The funeral was held at the home of her parents at Belpre Wednesday afternoon and interment was made at Mt. Olivet cemetery [sic: Odd Fellows cemetery] at this city.

On Saturday at Pittsburgh occurred the death of Mrs. Lydia Davidson and her remains were brought here Sunday afternoon and taken to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Oliver on Florence street. She is survived by her parents and six sisters who are Mrs. P. S. McCualsky of Newark, Mrs. Will McCrory of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Will Heasley of Sabina, Ohio, Mrs. Perry Smith of Harrisville, W. Va., Mrs. P. H. Glancy of Parkersburg, and Miss Laura Oliver at home. They have all arrived for the funeral. The funeral services will be held Wednesday, from the Congregational church at 1 o'clock, Rev. C. E. Dickinson of Marietta, and Rev. Edward Thomas of Belpre officiating. Interment will be made at the Odd Fellows cemetery at Parkersburg.

FRANK ELLENWOOD
FRANK ELLENWOOD - Native of County, Dies at Ithaca -- Frank Oakes Ellenwood, 69, of Ithaca, N. Y., former resident of Washington Co. and a member of one of the old families of the Newbury settlement near Little Hocking, died Sunday morning in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, N. Y. following a short illness. News of his death has been received by local relatives. Mr. Ellenwood was professor of engineering for 37 years at Cornell University at Ithaca, and was head of the department of heat and power engineering there since 1940. Since 1941, he was John Edson Sweet Professor of Engineering at Cornell. Born Nov. 10, 1878 at Newbury, he was the son of Douglas Harlow Ellenwood and Cynthia Clough Oakes Ellenwood. He was graduated from Marietta Academy, and received his A. B. degree in mechancial engineering from Leland Stanford University in 1904. His accomplishments, as listed in Who's Who, tell of his connections with engineering plants in San Francisco and as instructor in mechanical engineering at Leland Stanford University before assuming his duties at Cornell. Mr. Ellenwood was the author of several engineering text books and was consultant of the Public. Service Commission of New York City until his death. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering; of Sigma Xi; of Tau Beta Pi; president of Phi Kappa Phi, Atmos, Triangle and of the research club of Cornell. He was also a member of the First Unitarian Church at Ithaca; of the Masonic Lodge, and of the Ithaca Country Club. On June 30, 1909, he married Cecelia Freeman Atherton at Palo Alto, Cal., and she survives with two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Hammond, wife of Dr. Warner H. Hammond of the Medical College of Syracuse University, and Mrs. Prince McGuyre of Wichita, Kan. There are three grandchildren, Paul and Douglas Hammond and Patricia McGuyre. Relatives in and near Marietta include Mrs. Effie Ellenwood, Mrs. Ethel Alderman, Mrs. Helen Devol Chamberlain, Mrs. Robert L. Hausser of Marietta; Mrs. Carl Robinson, Mrs. Wilbur R. Woodburn and Mrs. C. Errol Holdren of Little Hocking; Mrs. Frank C. McGill and Mrs. Charlotte Miller of Veto. Memorial services will be held Thursday afternoon at Ithaca. Dr. E. L. Christie, formerly of the faculty of Marietta College, will participate in the service. Interment will be at Ithaca.

ANNA FRANCIS
FRANCIS -- Of paralysis, October 16th 1880, at the residence of Lester Francis, in Newport township, Mrs. Anna Francis in the 85th year of her age. She was a native of Hampshire County Va., but had lived in this township for about 50 years. She was a faithful mother and leaves a large line of descendants.

ARTHUR FRANCIS
Funeral services for Arthur Francis, 77, who died Friday at the Washington Co. Infirmary will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Newport Baptist Church. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery. Doudna and McClure's has charge of arrangements. Mr. Francis was born April 9, 1871 in Newport Twp. a son of Lester and Sophia Francis. Surviviors are his widow, Mrs E. Francis; and sons and daughters, George, Edward, Samuel, Donald, Lennie, May, Hilda, Ann and Enid Francis; three brothers, Watt Francis of Cuyahoga Falls, Harry Francis of Columbus and Dallas Francis of Parkersburg. There are two grandchildren.

LOUIS FRANCIS
Louis Francis, 74, of 122 Harmar St., died Thursday at 5:10 a.m. at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 2, 1888, in Barlow Twp., a son of the late Vincent and Mary E. Michaels Francis. On June 22, 1914, he married Lenora Ellen Hall who survives. Also surviving are three sons and five daughters, Louis Francis, Virgil Francis, and Eugene Francis, of the home, Mrs Emmett Patterson, Marietta, Mrs. Frank Fryman and Mrs. Wilson Gossett, Marietta Rt 4; Mrs. Leroy Graham and Mrs. William Stalnaker of Akron. Two children, Robert Francis and Clifford Francis, are deceased. There are 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister survive, George Francis, Marietta, Arthur Francis Marietta Rt 4, and Mrs Ellen Conners, Wheeling WV. One half-brother and four half-sisters survive, Alonzo, Henry, Vincent, Mrs. Charles Tullius and Mrs. Lonnie Christopher of Belpre Rt 1; Mrs. Fannie Savage, Canton; and Mrs. Rebecca Allender, Marietta. Mr. Francis had been employed at Hall's Grindstone Co. before his retirement 10 years ago. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Friends may call at Doudna and McClure Funeral Home.
