Hello, welcome to the OHGenWeb project for free genealogy research in Morgan County, Ohio.  I descend from a long line of Morgan county residents including the Robinson's, Dusenberry's, Dennis's, VanHorn's, Bernard's, Smith's, McElfresh, Davis, Spurbeck and many more!  It is my hope that this website will be a great resource for you in your genealogy research.

County Formation

Morgan Co, Ohio, named in honor of Gen. Daniel Morgan, was erected by an act of the Ohio General Assembly Dec. 29, 1817. The county was to be formed from parts of Guernsey, Washington and Muskingum counties. It's actually organization was in 1819.

In 1845 Marion & Homer twps of Athens Co and part of Roxbury twp of Washington Co were added.

In 1851 Brookfield, Noble, Olive, Jackson (formerly Olive Green), and 1/2 Manchester twps were used to form part of Noble Co.
