Derthick Coal Mine was located near Hollister, Ohio, Trimble township, Athens County. This photo was probably taken between 1920 and 1930. Walter Hayden listed above died in the 1930 Millfield Coal Mine Disaster.
Walter Hayden's obituary:
Walter Hayden age 49 born in Minersville, Ohio; was the mine superintendent of Millfield, was a former resident of Derthick. Funeral services were held at the U. B. Church of Hollister with burial in Maplewood cemetery. Hayden was for years the mine boss of Sunday Creek coal mine No. 10 at Derthick and was well known throughout the district. He was transferred to Millfield after the mine there was purchased by the Sunday Creek Coal Co. Lois Helmers.
