These are volunteer researchers, remember they have busy lives too !
A Very Special Thank You to all my Volunteer researchers! You are the greatest!
Requests MUST be SPECIFIC. Please, NO general
surname searches (EXAMPLE: All Smiths in the County). To help the volunteer
with your request, include an Approximate Date range (if known) for
your request (EXAMPLE: John Robinson who died between 1870-1875).
This is a website of volunteers, they will not be able to do all your
researching for you but can help with locating information not available to
you.
They do not have the actual certificates but only indexes which locate the information you need.
Do not ask a volunteer to do anything outside of
his/her area for which he/she has not volunteered. Few offer in depth fee based research.
The more specific data you have about your ancestor, the better you
will be able to ask for the exact information you need. IF you have general information
Post it on the Athens county Message board system, you will be amazed at the info shared there!

The Benefits?
Being put in touch with other people with similar genealogy interests. When I first started doing lookups in 1997 I had a genealogy database of 300 names. Because of the contact with all the genealogy researchers over the last three years, my personal file has grown to include 15,000 names, thousands of photo's and thousands of text informational files.
